Where is Camp Thoreau located?

Camp Thoreau is conveniently located in West Concord, off of Route 62 near the corners of Concord, Acton, Maynard & Sudbury. 235 Forest Ridge Road, Concord, MA 01742

What types of camps are offered?

There is a camp option for everyone! Camp S'more is our half-day camp and serves children age 4 -7. Our traditional full day camp serves ages 4-15. There is also a CIT (counselor-in-training) program for our older campers to prepare them for future camp employment. CITs are typically 13-15 years old.

What are camp hours?

Traditional full day camp: 9am – 3:30pm
Camp S'more: 9am – 1:15pm
Extended day: 7:30 – 8:45am // 3:30 – 6:00pm

How do children get to camp?

While most of our campers are driven to Camp Thoreau by parents or guardians, many take advantage of our affordable transportation options with local stops to get to camp safely and on time.

What types of swimming lessons are offered?

All campers participate in daily a Red Cross swim lesson, taught by our experienced, Red Cross-certified aquatics staff.

Does my child have to participate in swimming lessons?

At Camp Thoreau we believe it is critical for children to feel comfortable in water. As such, all campers are required to participate in a daily swim lesson appropriate to their ability.

Are there extended day hours?

Yes. We offer extended morning hours from 7:30-8:45am and extended afternoon hours from 3:45-6:00pm. Registration is required.

What type of medical support is available at camp?

There is always a Registered Nurse in our medical cabin during camp hours. Our nurse is available to treat bumps, bruises, insect bites and any other common camp-related mishap. The camp nurse is also in charge of storing and administering all medication safely, securely and privately.
