This 8-week Program is led by experts in nutrition, exercise and wellness and open to all; Next session starts June 12th
Concord, Mass.- May 29, 2018—The Thoreau Club is launching a new program, OsteoCARE, for the prevention, repair and renewal of bone for those with osteoporosis. According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, one out of two women and one out of four men over the age of 50 will have an osteoporosis-related fracture in his or her lifetime. The Thoreau Club’s new OsteoCARE program is designed to help individuals recognize and address the risk factors that lead to osteoporosis through exercise and diet. OsteoCARE is open to all and is enrolling participants now for the next session that runs from June 12th to July 31st.
“Education and prevention is the best strategy to reduce the risk of injury from osteoporosis,” says Laura Klein, Wellness Director at The Thoreau Club. “OsteoCARE’s comprehensive approach focuses on exercise physiology, proper diet, supplements, medications and alternative therapies to prevent, repair and treat osteoporosis. Our team of exercise physiologists, registered dietitians, personal trainers, physicians and wellness coaches guide participants through an 8-week integrated program that provides the tools and structure to achieve results.”
The 8-week program is taught in a small group format and meets three times a week. The cost is $399 for Thoreau Club members, and $599 for non-members, and is reimbursed by most insurances. OsteoCARE includes:
Thoreau Club members participated in a pilot OsteoCARE program this spring, with great success. Pat F., from Acton, a Thoreau Club member since 2003 who completed the pilot program said, “I am proof that proper exercise and diet can help reverse the effects of osteoporosis. I was diagnosed with osteopenia in 2001. For the last five years, my bone density score had been steadily improving and is now considered normal in large part due to my strength training program at The Thoreau Club. The OsteoCARE program provided me with new diet and exercise strategies. The nutrition lectures reinforced my supplement regimen and also helped me find new foods with minerals that can prevent and reverse bone loss. The exercises I learned from the trainers helped with balance and strength. Eight weeks went quickly but the lessons will stay with me as I work to keep my bones strong and healthy.”
