The Thoreau Club’s year round Junior tennis program is a progressive approach to tennis that gets kids playing quickly and having fun! The program begins with kids aged 3-4 learning to play and progresses them through to high school and tournament players who may be looking to play at the collegiate level.
Hand-eye coordination, balance and agility in small groups for kids ages 3-4.
Using small tennis rackets and soft red tennis balls, we play games with kids to help them learn how to track a moving ball and respond to it using a racket. Using kid-sized nets and courts, we teach kids how to rally (hit the ball over the net again and again).
Over the course of the session kids learn how to play tennis and meet new friends.

Players at this level use a slightly bigger court and a smaller orange ball. Kids gain more consistency in their strokes with faster drills and direct shots away from their opponents.
Guided by a fitness professional, 30 minutes of each lesson includes fitness training that helps players control large muscle groups for better coordination, agility and balance.
A fun and social Match Play Program reinforces all of the tennis skills taught during lessons.

Players in this stage prepare for the physical demands of covering a full court. Increased tactical development is emphasized including use of angles, spin, depth control and moving the opponent.
Young players develop an understanding of the opponent's strengths and weaknesses and learn to incorporate these tactics in attacking and defending their position.
Physically, we add resistance to balance challenges and increase speed and agility training. Fitness Professionals coach players for 30 minutes during each practice to develop these skills safely. Age-specific stretches are practiced and emphasized to help kids avoid injury.
At weekly match play sessions coaches identify areas for improvement, players learn self-reliance on the court and negotiate important social situations and build strong relationships with their athlete peers.
