Thoreau Sharks Swim Team

The Thoreau Sharks Swim Team is a fun and supportive swimming community. Our highly-trained coaches teach competitive swimming techniques, overall fitness conditioning and bring a spirit of fun to the pool.

Fall & Winter 2019-2020

PRACTICE SCHEDULE:
Monday - Thursday
10 & Under:
5:00 pm-6:00 pm
11 & Over:
6:00 pm-7:00 pm

You are welcome to attend any and all of the practices that fit your schedule. Our Coaches recommend you attend as many practices as you can.

Home meets begin at 1:30 pm for warm-up and 2:00 pm start, unless otherwise noted.

Your child MUST swim in at least five of the dual meets,  two of the five meets are expected to be away.  Swimmers also need a total of eight individual races to qualify for the championship meet in March.  Swimmers competing with their high school teams during the winter season will only need to have four meets.

THOREAU SHARKS ELIGIBILITY:

All swimmers must be able to follow direction from coaches in a large group setting and be able to swim the following:

  • 5-6 year olds: Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards unassisted and without stopping. They must be able to float on their own and make forward progress. Minimum of Red Cross Level 3.
  • 7-8 year olds: Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards unassisted and without stopping. We will be evaluating their freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. Minimum of Red Cross Level 3.
  • 9-10 year olds: Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards unassisted and without stopping. We will be evaluating their freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. Minimum of Red Cross Level 4.
  • 11-12 year olds: Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards unassisted and without stopping. We will be evaluating their freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Minimum of Red Cross Level 4.
  • 13-14 year olds: Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards unassisted and without stopping. We will be evaluating their freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Minimum of Red Cross Level 5.
  • 15-18 year olds: Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards of backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly unassisted and without stopping. They must be able to swim 100 yards of freestyle without stopping. Minimum of Red Cross Level 5.
